Happy Chinese New Year

February 3rd 2011 marks the Chinese New Year, changing from the Year of the Tiger into the Year of the Rabbit.

The Chinese Zodiac is thousands of years old and based upon a twelve year lunar cycle. Your sign is determined by the year in which you were born (to be accurate you must use a Chinese calendar). Each sign and those born under it, are represented by one of twelve animals, and are ascribed a set of attributes the Chinese believe comprise the nature of each particular animal.  Legend has it the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac were chosen by Buddha. When Buddha was near death he invited all the animals to visit him. Only 12 came: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. For visiting him, Buddha honoured each by using them to represent the 12 phases of the Zodiac.

There is a mix of signs amongst your friendly RIC Team:

Elizabeth is our Librarian at Gympie, her Chinese zodiac is the Rat.  Energetic and ambitious, honest and charming, the rat is also quick to anger. A poor leader and big spender (though penny-pinching towards others), the rat is big on perseverance, loves gossip, is timid and humble with the promise of great wealth.

Helen is our Manager and Elisabeth is a Library Technician, both at Bundaberg and Nand is the Librarian at Hervey Bay.  They all have the Pig zodiac in common.
Displaying remarkable integrity, the pig is shy but short-tempered, single-minded and affectionate. Dedicated, courageous and always kind to loved ones, the dedicated and courageous pig is honest but sometimes impulsive. Beware the unscrupulous.

Karen can be found at both the Maryborough and Bundaberg RICs.  Her zodiac is the Monkey. A good and clever politician, with a thirst for knowledge, the monkey is talented, passionate and self-willed. A big thinker and big doer, the monkey is clever, inventive and flexible, but lacks perseverance.

Sue is from Hervey Bay RIC and her zodiac is the Dragon. Leader of men, dragons are honest and sensitive within, but worrisome, fastidious and verbose. Though excitable, outwardly stubborn and short-tempered, the dragon is still beloved by others.

Jackii is also from Hervey Bay and her sign is the Tiger.  Female tigers are headstrong and obstinate. Men are favoured, straight and true with many friends. Though wary of strangers, tigers possess a fighting spirit and are deep, sensitive thinkers. Though not decision-makers, tigers are stubbornly courageous with troublesome tempers.

Wendy is from the Gympie RIC and her zodiac is the Goat.  The goat’s talents will always make money. Very charitable and easily empathetic, the goat is elegant in action and appearance. Passionate in everything, the goat is best at the arts but is a poor salesman.

Taking the positives from our characteristics your RIC team is honest, courageous, passionate, flexible, energetic, clever and kind.  But watch out because many of us are also short tempered particularly if it is an overdue!!!

Happy New Year of the Rabbit
